Great Blue Heron, Shark Valley. By Ana Lima
Experience the Everglades from a whole new perspective on a special Phoebes tram tour through Shark Valley in Everglades National Park! This private outing has been graciously coordinated by Phoebe Rachel DiPietro, and will be led by Everglades park rangers.
From the comfort of the open-air tram, we’ll travel deep into the River of Grass while learning about the ecology, wildlife and history of this extraordinary landscape. November is a wonderful time to explore Shark Valley, when cooler weather and lower water levels can bring abundant wildlife into view. Keep your eyes open for wading birds, raptors, alligators and other Everglades residents as our rangers help us spot and better understand the plants and animals that make this ecosystem so unique.
Along the way, we’ll learn how water shapes the Everglades, discover some of the subtle features of this seemingly flat landscape and hear about the challenges and conservation efforts affecting the park today. The tram route also travels to the Shark Valley Observation Tower, the highest accessible point in Everglades National Park, offering sweeping views across the sawgrass prairie.
Best of all, this special Phoebes tram tour is free! A big thank-you to Rachel and Everglades Education for helping make this opportunity possible for our group.
